Traveling extensively in Western China, to write my book, “44 Days”, I got an appreciation of just how isolated this part of the country is, often feeling like the last person on Earth. Yet, Baba Beijing goes to extraordinary levels to make sure that these mostly rural, minority peoples get the same public services and support as the heavily concentrated Eastern Plain and the Yangtze River/Sichuan Basin. These days, hi-tech is making it much easier to realize these egalitarian goals.
